You don't have to play better to enJOY golf – you often play better because you're enJOYing it.

Happy JOY Season

Holiday Lights

What you practice,
you get good at!

So, if you want to experience more JOY on and off the golf course, let’s make it a habit to create more of that emotional state.

A Simple Truth

You don’t only find joy on the golf course!
You bring it with you.
The more you practice these skills away from golf, the less effort joy requires when you play.

Here are three simple, powerful things you can do off the golf course to train your ability to focus on JOY.

Practice “Joy Awareness” (2-5 minutes a day)

Joy starts with awareness, not forcing positivity.
Once a day:
>> Pause and notice one moment of ease, calm, or appreciation.
>> It can be small: a good cup of coffee, sunlight, a relaxed breath.
>> Stay with the feeling for 10-20 seconds.

Why this works:
Your brain learns what you repeatedly pay attention to.
This trains your nervous system to recognize joy – which makes it easier to access on the course.
You’re not creating joy – you’re learning to notice it.

Train Kind Self-Talk Away From Golf

How you speak to yourself in daily life is exactly how you’ll speak to yourself on the course.
Once per day:
>> Catch one critical or impatient thought.
>> Gently replace it with something true and supportive.

Examples:
”I’m messing this up.” ––> “I’m learning as I go.”
”I should be better.” ––> “I’m doing my best right now.”

Why this works:
Golf pressure exposes habits – it doesn’t create them.
Practicing kindness off-course builds emotional safety, which allows joy to exist during play.

Rehearse Joy Through Imagery (3 minutes)

Joy is a state, and states can be trained.
A few times a week:
>> Close your eyes.
>> Picture yourself walking the course relaxed.
>> See yourself smiling after a swing.
>> Feel soft shoulders, steady breath, free motion.
>> Don’t focus on score – focus on how it feels.

Why this works:
Your brain doesn’t distinguish much between imagined and real experiences.
You’re wiring joy as a familiar, accessible state.

What you pay attention to has a tendency to grow … next time you play:
Appreciate effort, not only outcome.
Joy disappears when every shot is judged.
Instead, after each shot, acknowledge something you did well:

>> “I committed to that.”
>> “I trusted my decision.”
>> “Good tempo.”
>> “Nice balance.”

This trains your brain to associate golf with positive reinforcement, which leads to more freedom, confidence, and enjoyment over time.

Gladys Palmer Award

WGCA Conference – Gladys Palmer Award

We were so surprised and honored to receive the women’s collegiate golf’s most prestigious award – Gladys Palmer Meritorious Service Award at the annual coaches conference in Las Vegas.

This award is intended to honor individuals who have made a substantial contribution to the evolution and growth of women’s collegiate golf. Recipients of this prestigious award have influenced women’s golf in a manner that changed the complexion of the sport. The award is meant to honor a pioneering spirit. #grateful

We also had the opportunity to speak to all the men and women college coaches. Our theme was to share the non-negotiable things we would do if we were college coaches! What would we do with the players and what would we do to make sure we grow as coaches?
